Getting to Asilomar

By Air

The Monterey Regional Airport is 9 miles away from Asilomar (17-minute drive). There are direct flights to the Monterey Regional Airport from San Francisco, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

The nearby international airports are San Francisco International (SFO) and San Jose International (SJC). From SFO and SJC, travelers can get the Monterey Airbus that has departures nearly every hour to the Monterey area; either to fixed locations (e.g., Monterey Shuttle Station or Marina) or directly to Asilomar and other hotels in the area. The Monterey Airbus also offers more personalized and flexible options such as car sharing for up to 3 passengers.

By Rail

CalTrain is a rail service that serves Silicon Valley, from San Francisco to San Jose. San Jose is one of the stops of Amtrak’s Coast Starlighta prestigious train in Amtrak’s system. The Starlight stops 20 miles from Monterey in downtown Salinas. From Salinas, Amtrak provides a short bus ride to five different spots in Monterey.

The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) connects San Francisco and the SFO airport, from which travelers can take the Monterey Airbus.

By Bus

The Monterey Airbus connects the SFO and SJC airports to Monterey, hotels, and Asilomar. Greyhound has a bus route from San Francisco to Monterey (with a transfer in Gilroy).

By Car

From the San Francisco Bay Area, the scenic route is the iconic Highway 1 drive along the coast. Best to get on Highway 1 in San Francisco, and make sure to stop along the way. The fastest route is taking 101 South, and getting off on 156 which leads onto Highway 1. Then take the exit onto 68, and continue until you see Asilomar Avenue on the right.
