Ada Lovelace Day Celebration

When: Tuesday, October 9, at 19:00 – 22:00

Where: Asilomar Seascape (next to the Crocker dining hall, where lunch is served)

“Ada Lovelace Day (ALD) is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). It aims to increase the profile of women in STEM and, in doing so, create new role models who will encourage more girls into STEM careers and support women already working in STEM.”

ALD is held every year on the second Tuesday of October. ISWC 2018 will remember Ada Lovelace on October 9 with social evening event that will include a discussion panel and a Wikipedia edit-a-thon, while a hosted bar serves beer, wine, and soft drinks. After the indoors portion of the event, we will be moving to the BBQ Area & Fire Pit to enjoy s’mores AND more drinks by the fire (there will be another bar near the fire pit). Our co-sponsor CRA-W asked everyone who intends to join our celebration to register online. It only takes a few minutes! Form aside, please do join us for drinks and snacks – The event is open to all ISWC participants.

The scheduled panelists are Helena Deus (Elsevier), Christine T Wolf (IBM), Miriam Fernandez (Open University), Katherine Thornton (Yale), and Kenneth Seals-nutt (Yale Women Faculty Forum), discussing initiatives like Athena SWAN, Women networking squads, Science Stories, and gender in the global research landscape. See our blog post for further details.

Happy Ada Lovelace day everyone!

The event is kindly co-sponsored by CRA-W and Elsevier, and it is open to all registered attendees!
